East Asia made an art of restraint. The finest bowl shows the fire that shaped it. A repair is finished in gold so the break becomes the most beautiful line on the surface. A song carries more silence than sound.
These ways of working are held by families and schools that take one student at a time, and only after a long season of looking. Money does not move them. Patience and seriousness do.
We are readying Japan first, then the Mongolian steppe, each at the pace its keepers choose.
