In the Andes, cloth is a way of writing the world. The patterns a weaver sets on a backstrap loom carry mountains, rivers, and the order of the stars. Colour comes from cochineal and indigo and lichen, gathered on walks that are themselves a lesson.
Some of what lives in this region asks for great care, and a long preparation before any door opens. Trust here is earned slowly, and only in person.
We begin with the Quechua weaving valleys. The wider region waits on the same patient terms.
